Wow! 2011 was a HUGE year for Lilith Dark! This was the year that Lilith Dark found an audience, and if you’re reading this, then you’re part of that audience. To all of you who have read, promoted, left comments, and stopped by to say “Hi” at the conventions this year, THANK YOU. “Lilith Dark” is truly a labor of love, and it’s because of your positive feedback and support that I’m able to keep working on this project. With all of that said, I’m afraid I’ve made the tough decision to take “Lilith Dark” on an extended hiatus.

When I started Lilith Dark, my goals were to:
1. Show editors and art directors that I can create sequential art
2. Improve my art skills
3. Find an audience for my work

Well, I think I’ve done those things, to the point that I can’t keep up with the work-flow. This is not a complaint, and I am not bragging, I’m simply stating a fact. 2011 is the year that I finally started to get regular work in the illustration field, and for that I am grateful. But because of that, Lilith Dark has suffered, and I don’t want that to happen. It’s not fair to you guys, and it’s not fair to Lilith.

After hearing so much great feedback, and literally selling out of the first printing of Lilith Dark #1, it’s become obvious to me that there are at least a few people out there that really like Lilith and Dewey, so I want to go back to square one and refocus my efforts on creating the best comic that I can. I don’t want to finish pages at the last minute on a Tuesday night to get them ready to publish on Wednesday. When I do that, the art suffers. I have no interest in publishing sub-par work. This is not my hobby, this is my career. The work must be top-notch. I owe that to myself, the characters, and also to all of you. I put everything I have into each page of Lilith Dark, and cutting corners to make a self imposed deadline is not where I want to be.

Moving forward, I’m going to begin publishing Lilith Dark in chapters. Once I finish a new chapter, I’ll schedule the posts to go live according to the regular schedule. That way I won’t have to do any last minute work. The pages will be done, and they will go live ON SCHEDULE! No more late updates, so you will hopefully have a better experience, and not have to wait 4 weeks between updates, which is unfair to you as a reader. Yes, reading Lilith Dark online is free, but if I say there’s going to be a new page each week, then it’s only fair that I actually post a new page each week. There will be breaks in between chapters, just like there are breaks on television shows, but, there will be no more breaks in the middle of chapters, so it will be better for you as the reader. At least I hope so.

The other thing I want to focus on is getting Lilith Dark in front of more people. I had what I consider a hugely successful convention tour this year. Considering that I’ve never done the ‘con circuit before, and the fact that practically no one has ever heard of me or Lilith Dark, I think selling out of #1 is an enormous accomplishment. People like it, and that is really a great feeling. I want to get more books done so I can get them out to more people. I want to make them better than they already are, and I want to get my books in the hands of anyone that wants a copy. Much like Jack Skellington learned some things and had new ideas after managing Christmas, I have some big ideas for 2012. I’ll need time to prepare, and lightening my workload will help me to make things bigger and better for next year.

In the spirit of expanding the reach of Lilith Dark, I’m also going to begin syndicating to other websites. LilithDark.com will be the home of the official archive, but I am going to begin posting Lilith Dark on as many other websites as I can, including webcomics sites, and via social media sites like Google+, and Facebook. You will not be able to escape the onslaught of Lilith Dark in 2012!

Ok, so I know you don’ care about any of that, so, when will there be new Lilith Dark pages online? Honestly, I’m not sure yet, but I do know that Lilith Dark #2 will be available in early Spring, and if all goes well, Lilith Dark #3 will be available in the Fall. The story continues, and Lilith isn’t going anywhere. I am in love with this project, and I will absolutely be seeing it through to completion.

Thank you all for everything. 2011 has been a breakout year for me and for my goofy little comic. I’m excited for the future of Lilith Dark, and I hope that you’ll all be along for the ride. I promise it will be worth it.
